Inspired by the iconic gilding of the Paris Opera, the Phantom II Opéra de Paris | Devialet is adorned with side plates gilded with moongold leaf, a precious stainless alloy of palladium and yellow gold.
The removal of gold leaf on the side panels of the Phantom was entrusted to Ateliers Gohard, in Paris. Also in charge of restoring the gilding of the Opéra Garnier and other French national monuments, these master gilders use ancestral methods. Each gold leaf is applied by hand in an eight-step process, creating an absolutely inimitable patina. This technique consists of applying a special glue to the support. Once the mixture is in love - an expression that alludes to a slightly moist kiss - the gold leaves are laid down. And these heritage techniques require absolute precision because once a sheet has been applied, it cannot be removed.
